Liver and detoxificationThe following article gives some basic information about the Liver. A healthy liver is vital for optimum health. One of the most important organs of the body is the liver. Disease of the liver can be extremely painful. However, research has shown that liver functions can be strengthened. As part of our regular newsletter there will be news of successful alternative treatments. Information about the liverThe liver is the largest glandular organ in the human body. Situated under the right side of the diaphragm, it secretes bile and is of great importance in your bodies metabolism. How it functions would take an entire textbook but basically it processes the digested food, changes it into substances that the body will need and stores them until required.
It is the main detoxifier and cleanser of your blood. The gall bladder lies under the right lobe. The liver produces a substance called bile which it stores in the gall bladder. During the digestion process the bile is released into the intestines to help metabolise certain foods. The liver also stores Glycogen (which supplies energy), it detoxifies certain poisons, and it plays an important part in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fat, helping to maintain a correct balance of nutrients throughout the body. Our Modern Lifestyle has increased the number of toxins that are accumulating in our bodies and have to pass through the liver. The water we drink contains chemical contaminants. These range from heavy metals such as Mercury to hormones that are found in birth control pills. Our food is contaminated by pesticides, hormones and chemical fertilisers. The Liver is being constantly bombarded with these man-made toxins and is usually battling to handle them. Substances that cannot be used in the body, such as these toxins, are stored in the liver and gall bladder. Solid, calcified matter builds up as gall stones both in the liver and gall bladder. Eventually, the liver is unable to function properly and symptoms of a malfunctioning liver appear in the body. These can range from digestive problems to Hepatitis (inflammation of the liver). Many skin conditions, especially Psoriasis can be caused by a liver malfunction. If you are just feeling a bit "off colour", the health of your liver is the first place to check. In any suspected malfunction of the liver, the diet MUST be inspected and changed. Then, it is suggested that a program of Colon, Kidney and Liver Cleanses/Detox's are undertaken to remove the stored toxins. These three organs are so closely connected, that if one is malfunctioning, it will be affecting the others. In extreme cases, a Liver cleanse should be started as soon as possible. There are many herbs that can help the liver and including them in your diet as salad greens, tinctures or capsules can help to maintain the health of your liver. A Cleanse/Detox could remove gall stones, toxins and help to restore your Liver to it's full function so ensuring good overall health for your body.
